As a Vacuum Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining ultra-high vacuum environments essential to our quantum sensor technology. You will be responsible for the construction of UHV systems which have been designed in-house and tailored to application-specific needs.

Joining us means stepping into a dynamic environment with room for growth, both in your role and within the company as we expand. The nature of start-up work brings challenges and unpredictability, but it’s also incredibly fulfilling—you’ll work alongside talented, driven colleagues to create innovative solutions and build something from the ground up at a fast pace.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environments critical to the function of cold atom traps and therefore quantum sensors like atomic clocks, gravity systems, and metrology fields.

  • Operate, manage, and maintain in-house vacuum systems and other laboratory vacuum capabilities, including complex equipment.

  • Identify technical and operational risks, proposing and implementing effective mitigation strategies.

  • Maintain transparent and open communication channels with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.

  • Create detailed documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate project progress, findings, and developments.

Background and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

  • Experience in ultra-high vacuum systems or comparable complex technical processes. (2+ years is desired but not essential)

  • Proficiency in Python and other technical tools for data analysis, modelling, or automation desired.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in building, assembling, or prototyping mechanical or electromechanical systems.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyse, and resolve technical and operational issues in high-stakes environments.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing and collaborative projects.

  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and engage in continuous learning to adopt new skills.
